Small town girl. Big salon dream.

     Southern Roots of Crandall was established in 2017 by salon owner and stylist Cameo O’Rear. After beginning her career in Mesquite in 2007, Cameo made the decision to relocate her growing clientele back to her hometown of Crandall, Texas after starting a family and realizing how important it was to be closer to home. That move ultimately became the beginning of something much bigger. Once back in Crandall, one of the biggest turning points in Cameo’s career was meeting Katelyn, now her right-hand girl and an irreplaceable part of Southern Roots. What started as an assistant relationship quickly turned into a true partnership behind the chair and within the salon. Together, the two built a clientele, salon culture, and working relationship that became far more than either of them could have imagined. Their passion for hair, teamwork, dedication to clients, and shared vision helped lay the foundation for what Southern Roots is today.

     Following her instincts Cameo took a leap of faith and opened the very first Southern Roots location inside what locals knew as the “old gun shop.” With a vision, a lot of hard work, and the support of family, Southern Roots quickly became more than just a salon. It became a place where relationships were built, confidence was restored, and a small-town dream began to take root.

     For five years, that original salon helped establish Southern Roots as a staple within the Crandall community. Then in June of 2022, the opportunity came to relocate into a salon space twice the size of the original location, creating room for growth, opportunity, and an even better experience for both the team and their clients. A three month extensive gut and remodel took place! Rooms were built, walls were painted and a beautiful space to call ours was created! 

     Today, Southern Roots is home to eight stylists and one barber, all independently building their businesses while supporting and encouraging one another along the way. The culture behind the salon is centered around teamwork, positivity, growth, and genuine connection, something that can be rare to find within the beauty industry.

     Over the years, Southern Roots has become so much more than just a workplace. While the salon exists to serve and pamper clients, it has also become a second home for the team inside of it. The friendships, support systems, laughter, teamwork, and relationships built within these walls have created an environment that feels uplifting, welcoming, and truly special. Not only for the stylists but for every client who walks through the doors.

     At Southern Roots, every guest is meant to feel welcomed, relaxed, heard, cared for, and confident from the moment they walk through the doors. The salon was created to be more than just a beauty destination, it’s a safe and welcoming space where clients can unwind, connect, and leave feeling like the best version of themselves.

Every stylist and barber inside Southern Roots has poured their heart and soul into building not only their own business, but the atmosphere and experience the salon is known for today. As the salon continues to grow and evolve, the team remains incredibly proud of the community and salon family they’ve created together.

     Above all, Southern Roots would not exist without the unwavering support of family. From late nights and renovations to encouragement during uncertain moments, Cameo’s husband Justin and stepdad played an enormous role in helping turn a dream into reality. Through faith, hard work, and trusting the path God laid out, Southern Roots has become exactly what it was always meant to be. Welcome in!
